Hello, and welcome to the pre-law student's guide to the major areas of law, analyzed using expert opinion and recent social, political, and economic trends to illuminate with areas show promise and which areas show signs that they are on the decline. With each page, there is carefully selected video content and external linking that further illustrates what practice is like in that field and what the future holds - be sure to browse these materials as well.

This resource features legal fields as they are commonly delineated, but please understand that the divisions of law relied upon here are not necessarily free of overlap. In fact, most of the categories featured can be woven together to express other areas of specialty, and there are a multitude of niche fields that could not be incorporated at this time (for a more comprehensive index of legal fields, please see HG.org Legal Resources). There are also plans to expand this resource in collaboration with the Elon University Pre-Law program, so please visit again in the near future to learn more about the state and future of legal careers.

One final note: You are encouraged to carve a legal career out for yourself that best captures your strengths and interests. This resource merely features popular points of origin that most attorneys focus their practice around because it relates to a clear statutory foundation and it defines a topic that clients turn to a particular attorney for.

Several authoritative studies in psychology have found attorneys to be among the most depressed professions in the country, but we can change this. By educating ourselves, we increase the likelihood for confidence and fulfillment in our career path and minimize the possibility of regret. So please, take a minute to browse this resource and envision your future in the legal field(s) that interest you most. Comments are appreciated and will be reviewed by an administrator in a timely manner.
