There Will Come Soft Rains describes the extinction of mankind after a nuclear holocaust in the year 2026. The story follows the actions of an artificially intelligent house that continues along its daily duties despite the death of the owners.

After re-reading Bradbury's short story, I began to analyze his use of literary devices to better understand the purpose of his writing. There Will Come Soft Rains was written 5 years after the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a time when the world was still awestruck at the power of nuclear weapons. Bradbury catered to this specific audience in a story designed to caution readers of mankind's demise when our technology outpaces our humanity, also affirming that nothing of man or machine can prevail against nature.
