Methodology

To conduct this study, eight headshots of female athletes from various sports were used. Four of the athletes were widely considered to be attractive and four were considered to be unattractive. Each of the photos features the athlete outside of their uniform, to avoid hints towards their identity. A group of males were individually asked if they could identify any of the 8 athletes. The number from each of the two groups that were identified was recorded. Each male was shown all eight of the photos at the same time and each male was tested individually. This was done to decrease bias from collaboration.
