Goal

Faculty of the Sport and Event Management (SEM) Department and members of the Premier Sport and Event Society have taken strides over recent years to enhance diversity efforts.  With Elon University’s continued and deepening commitment to diversity, this proposal set specific goals for the Sport & Event Management Department that clarified and strengthened these efforts.  

 Specifically, the department, in the past, provided opportunities for Sport and Event Management majors to informally identify a mentor through a demanding internship program. However, Hanlon (2004) stresses that although this is a great opportunity to interact, the workplace often leaves little time for students to develop a deep connection with mentors. The purpose of this proposal was to develop a Diversity Inclusion Mentoring Program so SEM students can benefit from a deeper professional relationship with experienced professionals within the industry.
