Over the past year, I have realized the importance of audience, purpose, context, and message in relation to professional writing. In this section of my portfolio, I have focused the development of my professional career through group, individual, and client projects. Through these experiences I have learned how to be a good communicator and collaborator by putting the audience’s needs ahead of my own. The first few documents under Family Abuse Services are based off a project where we had to create and develop a newsletter for the client. The next document, Occupy Wall Street Pedagogy, stemmed from a pedagogical class where we had to apply our rhetorical strategies to create a game that paralleled the protests at the time. The final document was based off a semester long project in which I had to select a group or organization that was facing communications problems. Through these different experiences, I have become a more effective communicator and professional writer.
