Inform

During my time at Elon University, I have found that I become an educator when I write and that informing a specific audience requires making appropriate rhetorical decisions. This section highlights a few educational materials that I have created in the Professional Writing and Rhetoric program.

Included in this section are pieces that required rhetorical decisions involving visual rhetoric and design, logos and professionalism, and audience and purpose. Writing to inform on a topic can take many forms. For example, the first piece in this section is a website I built to teach students about rhetoric and it’s many definitions and examples. Creating the website required that I pay close attention to the visual elements of the content and find a balance between text and visuals.

In the second piece, writing to inform took the form of an informational booklet to be used as a resource for future grant writing interns. Another student and I chose to reformat this document over a year after creating it to enhance its logical organization and professionalism. In the third piece, audience and purpose were the focus of creating a style guide resource for first-year students. The assignment had very specific goals, and my role in creating a one-page style sheet was to ensure that every decision I made was made with the audience and purpose in mind.
