Community Outreach & Collaboration

This section of my portfolio comprises outreach-based projects I completed as service initiatives in the local community surrounding Elon University.

I first became involved in Elon Volunteers! (EV!) as a freshman by volunteering as a tutor at the Avalon community refugee center in Greensboro. As a sophomore and junior, I served as a program coordinator for the EV! Avalon program. During my senior year, I transitioned into a more indirect service role as the Outreach & Collaboration Intern in Elon's Kernodle Center for Service Learning, through which I serve as co-president of the EV! organization. As exemplified by the contextual narratives and various deliverables contained in this section, my leadership roles within EV! have centered on connecting with other student volunteers and community partners. Such outreach has included both promoting involvement in EV! to first-year students and contributing to sustainability in leadership transitions.

Service learning coursework has also allowed me to engage with the Conservators' Center, a nonprofit organization that works with threatened species in Mebane, North Carolina. Through ENG 397: Writing as Inquiry, I took part in a client consulting project in which we evaluated the Center's tour program. Through this consulting project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with my peers in researching how the Conservators' Center can best connect to and meet the needs of visitors from the local community.
