 Rhetorically Based Multimedia

This section aims to show that I am able to apply what I have learned to analyze, plan, and implement projects that are not only rhetorically sound, situated in a number of different multimedia mediums. Being able to utilize modern design tools and techniques is a critical skill in the modern workplace. A number of assignments have given me the opportunity to showcase what I can do creatively and more importantly, work on a product for the entirety of the production process.

An assignment in Multimedia Rhetoric tasked me to research some form of multimedia rhetoric and then design a deliverable that showcased my research. I chose to research mobile web interfaces and what I learned along with my rhetorical knowledge to create a website where students could register for classes on the go. The second document is a newsletter for Family Abuse Services of Alamance County for a group project in Publishing that necessitated a heavy focus on audience and client needs. The last document is a project from Multimedia Rhetoric that asked us to choose an existing print document and turn it into a document that utilizes hypertext. The project challenged us to come up with creative ways to make use of hypertext’s ability to arrange data. While ambitious, I decided to make use of a company analysis I had written for a business communications class (included in the “Adaptable” section). The challenges presented by the length and the complex format of the document were exacerbated by my lack of any knowledge of how to design a website. I managed to teach myself how to use Adobe Dreamweaver and produced a product that is both visually pleasing and highly functional.
