Writing and researching have been integral activities in my development as a Professional Writing and Rhetoric student. As a Lumen Scholar at Elon, I have worked for several years on writing and researching the topic of rhetorical strategies in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM). As an intern at shots Magazine in London, I was tasked with researching and writing stories about creativity in advertising.

This section is important because it explains how I have adopted a disciplinary identity as a writer, integrated theoretical knowledge and professional practice, and developed an understanding that writing participates in socially constructing the worlds within which we live.

As I move forward along my career path, I am confident that I will be able to implement the skills I have learned while studying at Elon. The following pages will explain the rhetorical strategies used throughout my time as a Lumen Scholar and an intern at shots Magazine.
