 Dear Reader,

Welcome to my Digication portfolio. I will be graduating from Elon University in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. My concentrations are Creative Writing and Professional Writing and Rhetoric. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my time at Elon is that as a writer, I am a chameleon. Both the Professional Writing and Rhetoric and Creative Writing concentrations are rigorous and challenging and have given me the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to succeed as a writer in the professional world. As human beings, we are multifaceted, complex creatures. I believe the same concept applies to our professional identities.

In terms of my portfolio, I have chosen to showcase three distinct areas of my Professional Writing and Rhetoric identity: the associate, the activist, and the beatnik. The intention behind these identities is showcase the diversity in my rhetorical repetoire and the range of skills I have developed from the program. My portfolio is a conglomeration of client projects, academic assignments, internship deliverables, and independent creative endeavors, all of which stem from my experience as a Professional Writing and Rhetoric student.

As a photographer, I often capture image through the natural juxtaposition of elements. A designer starts from scratch and digitally manipulates aspects of a document. As an artist, I have always been drawn to design, but have lacked the skill set. The Professional Writing and Rhetoric program has helped me to bridge the gap between my photography eye and my natural affinity for language in order to successfully and effectively manipulate components of design and visual rhetoric for Professional Writing and Rhetoric.

Over the course of my undergraduate experience, I have had the chance to develop my design skills, learning to use programs like Photoshop and InDesign. As I reflect on my portfolio, I am pleasantly surprised that there is a strong design element. And though I am still harnessing this skill set, I have grown to more confidently address design in my writing process.

Thank you for taking the time to review my portfolio. I hope you enjoy the Professional Writing and Rhetoric patchwork quilt that is the culmination of my experience at Elon University.

All the Best,

Margaret Bryant
