Overview

For this Diversity Infusion Project, the School of Education team developed an international studies course in the master’s program, with a week abroad conducting service learning with a K-12 partner school in Costa Rica.  Prior to, during, and after the international experience, candidates were expected to write inquiry papers and write as citizens on diversity experiences, locally and abroad.  Candidates (all of whom are teachers) provided evidence of how the researching, writing, and international experience impacted (a) enrichment of their community of diverse learners (teachers, students, parents, etc.) and (b) their advocacy for the welfare of ALL students they encounter, locally and globally. Candidates were also asked to demonstrate how collaboration with peers in the discipline, both local and global, impacted their intercultural competence as professional educators and educational leaders.
